What is the Original Recipe for The Vesper Martini?

The original recipe for the Vesper Martini, as described by James Bond in the novel, calls for three measures of Gordon’s gin, one measure of vodka, and half a measure of Kina Lillet, which is a brand of French apéritif wine.

The ingredients are shaken with ice and strained into a cocktail glass, and a lemon peel twist is used for garnish.

I can’t Find Kina Lillet

It’s worth noting that the original recipe specified Kina Lillet, but the formulation of Lillet changed in the 1980s, and the product is now known as Lillet Blanc.

The modern version of Lillet Blanc is slightly different from the original Kina Lillet, which had a more bitter flavor. Therefore, if you want to recreate the original Vesper Martini, you may need to make some adjustments or seek out a similar bitter apéritif to Kina Lillet.

Another Reason Why the Vesper Martini is Popular

The Vesper Martini gained even more recognition when it appeared in the 2006 film adaptation of “Casino Royale” starring Daniel Craig as James Bond.

The movie showcased the cocktail, further popularizing it among a new generation of Bond fans.

Today, the Vesper Martini remains a classic and iconic cocktail associated with the James Bond franchise. It is often regarded as a sophisticated and stylish choice for cocktail enthusiasts who want to capture a taste of the Bond legacy.
